The entire Salmon River Watershed to the north has a unique and well-preserved geography carved by the river and ancient glaciers. Menzel Centennial Provincial Nature Reserve is a great place for a scenic family hike to Mud Lake.

On the way to the Nature Reserve be sure to take in Buttermilk Falls in Forest Mills, a peaceful retreat with lots to see and explore. Right in the heart of Napanee you can take in Napanee Falls; this winding cascade that was once used as a mill is at the start of Springside Park. Make sure to visit the top and wind yourself down the beautiful trail around the Napanee River. These are just some of the places of amazing natural beauty that are found in this historic area.

If experiencing early Ontario history is your thing, Greater Napanee is a essential visit. A plethora of museums including the Lennox and Addington County Archives, The Allan McPherson House and the United Empire Loyalist Heritage Centre and Park are all extremely well-maintained and brilliantly showcase the rich local culture and heritage.
OLD HAY BAY CHURCH
The Old Hay Bay Church in particular is a jewel that should not be missed. Originally built in 1792, it was the first Methodist chapel in Upper Canada. It currently houses a museum, holds regular services and its grounds offer beautiful views of the Bay of Quinte.

While taking in the natural beauty and history of Greater Napanee, you will inevitably be drawn to the historic Central Business District. Greater Napanee has a small town feel with top-notch restaurants, trendy boutiques and shops offering many locally made goods. Listing all of the places that should be experienced here would be impossible!
You should definitely reserve a portion of your trip to explore Dundas Street West. Two businesses that must be highlighted are The Waterfront River Pub and Terrace, serving Canadian pub meals and leading-edge cuisine; and Len’s Bakery, which never fails to provide amazing fresh baked goods.
