Winter Activity of the Week: Cheer On the Belleville Senators

THE GOOD OL’ HOCKEY GAME

Catch a professional hockey game in Belleville! The Belleville Senators (B-Sens) are the AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators and have called the CAA Arena home since 2017. This is as close to the big leagues as it gets.

The game is fast and the entertainment is abundant. All breaks in gameplay are filled with big screen or on-ice entertainment, including videos from B-Sens community work, highlights of local charities like Habitat for Humanity Prince Edwards-Hastings, or getting people up from their seats to show off their best “Griddy” (It’s a dance—I didn’t know what that was either!). The game I attended had fan favourite CAA Chuck-A-Puck during the second intermission. Buy a bag of pucks and when they say GO! chuck your pucks onto the ice and try to be the closest to the center dot. All of the proceeds support the community group/organization of the evening and the three closest pucks receive tickets in the CAA suite for an upcoming game.

A crowd of hockey fans throwing pucks onto the ice for the chuck-a-puck night. Hundreds of pucks are scattered around the rink.
CAA Chuck-A-Puck happens during 10 B-Sens home games a year; each one supporting a different community organization.

INSIDER TIPS

You can’t go to a game without getting a picture with the B-Sens’ loveable mascot Belly. Belleville is referred to as The Friendly City, and Belly truly embodies that characteristic. Belly is very present at the games walking around handing out high fives, throwing thumbs up in the air, and shaking his bum. Just as Belly turns heads and draws a crowd wherever he goes, so does Belly’s Brisket Sundae from Cannifton Carvery, located inside the arena. A waffle cone layered with a large scoop of mashed potatoes and braised beef brisket, covered in maple syrup, topped with a cherry.  I recommend getting the chipotle chippers from Cannifton Carvery – a crunch that packs some punch.

Belly’s Brisket Sundae is sure to turn some heads!

When it comes to seating here, you can’t go wrong. Every seat in the house has a great view of the action. Sit at ice level to be up close and personal with the players, go higher up to see every inch of the ice surface (there are no nose-bleeds here), or make the occasion extra special by purchasing premium seats that include table service and offer one of the most unique vantage points in professional hockey. Once you’ve experienced the big energy at these games, you’ll be eager to come back. Go Sens Go!
