Pop-Ups on the Bay: Part Two

A box of pizza on the grass.

In part two, Garrett shares five more reasons to get down to West Zwick’s Park this summer.

Welcome back to the second part of the Pop-Ups on the Bay blog! In the last blog I told you about Venture Outfitters, Sugar Mama’s Bake Shoppe, and Golden Scoops Ice Cream. (If you missed that blog, you can find it here.) Let’s dive right back into it.

Please make sure to abide by physical distancing protocols and to continue following Public Health guidelines surrounding COVID-19.

Royal Haveli

Royal Haveli is a Belleville staple. If you’ve ever been to their restaurant on Bell Blvd., you know that they serve over 130 (wow!) different northern Indian dishes. You can now find them in Zwick’s Park serving several traditional Indian street food dishes!

All the meals are made fresh in their restaurant and brought down to the Pop-Ups. I had some butter chicken and it was fantastic! The rice was perfect, the chicken was juicy and the sauce had a perfect balance of spice and rich flavour. Owners Anu and Rakesh take great pride in what they serve their customers and it definitely shows.

Gator’s Fries

Gator’s Fries offers all the chip truck essentials: burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers and onion rings — but their specialty is their poutine. The difference is that they hand punch their fries daily, and they don’t skimp out on the portion sizes. With serving sizes enough to feed an army, make sure you come hungry! And if delicious golden fries with savoury gravy and cheese curds isn’t enough for you, you can add bacon on top! These folks are crowd pleasers, and everyone I talked to loved their food.

The Alpha Dog

When owner Russ was working full-time, he always had a dream to run a barbeque stand when he retired. After retiring and running a stand part-time for around ten years, his dream has become a reality at Pop-Ups on the Bay.

If there’s one thing he’s learned over those years, it’s how to grill the perfect sausage. When Russ opened Alpha Dog, he knew he couldn’t serve just any sausage; he searched high and low for the best. He was finally introduced to a German butcher from Peterborough, who helped him choose the best sausages to serve, and the proof is in the bun!

The bratwurst has a fantastic bite and chew and has a delicious mild flavour. If you prefer something with spice, then the Italian sausage is the one for you. And if you want a nice balance of flavour and spice, go for the debreziner. They also have a vegetarian dog, and gluten free buns!

Brick Oven Pizza

In their second year at Pop-Ups on the Bay, Brick Oven Pizza is serving up delicious pizza. The staff are trained by the award-winning pizza masters at the School of Italian Pizza in North York. Each pizza is made with fresh ingredients and made in-house dough and baked to perfection in an authentic brick oven in under five minutes.

These pizzas are excellent for sharing within your social bubble, but you could also eat one on your own. I had the Margherita, and it was fantastic! The sauce was flavourful but not overpowering, the cheese was melted, the basil was fresh and the crust was thin and crispy but still had the right amount of chew. If you’re a pizza lover, you have got to try it.

Authentic Lifestyle Apparel

Nadine O’Hearn is the owner/operator of Authentic Lifestyle Apparel and has been for the past 14 years. Nadine moved from the GTA to Belleville two years ago and specializes in custom clothing. Offering t-shirts, hoodies and pants, you can get any custom order made on the spot.

The process is simple; you choose the item, size and colour and Nadine prints your design on the shirt right there at the booth while you wait, or while you take in the beauty of the Bay of Quinte. Simple! If you need a bulk order done for a team, business or any other large group they can do that, too. All clothing is made in Canada, so you can be proud to support a truly Canadian business.

My experience at Pop-Ups on the Bay was fantastic. All the business owners are friendly and very proud of what they do. If you’re looking for an amazing experience for you or your family, I highly recommend checking out the Pop-Ups. Whether you want to spend the whole day doing fun activities or you’re just looking for a bite to eat, Pop-Ups is sure to make you happy. Pop-Ups on the Bay is a wonderful addition to the Bay of Quinte community and all of the vendors are so happy to be open for business in beautiful Zwick’s Park!
