A DAY AT THE POP-UPS

Whether you’re looking for delicious eats or feel like taking a swing at mini-putt, Belleville’s Pop-ups on the Bay are back for the 2022 season and have got you covered. We took advantage of a sunny Saturday afternoon to check out all there was to offer in West Zwick’s Park!

TIME TO TEE OFF

Our first stop was Park Play Micro Golf. The course consists of nine holes to test your putting skills on. From banking off of a Converse shoe planter to Humpty Dumpty judging your swing, it’s a great time for everyone and all ages. At only $7 a round per person, it’s a fantastic way to spend half an hour.A man stands on the mini golf course at Pop-ups on the Bay playing a round of mini golf.

WORKIN’ UP AN APPETITE

Samosas, Chana Masala and Chicken Seekh Kabab Kathi Roll from Royal Haveli's pop-up in West Zwick's Park.Next, we were feeling a bit peckish, so we stopped by Royal Haveli, a popular Belleville restaurant. Royal Haveli is spending its third year as a staple at the Pop-ups, serving up authentic Indian cuisine. I grabbed the Samosas because they are unbeatable, and the Chana Masala with rice, while Chris picked up the Chicken Seekh Kabab Kathi Roll. Both were flavourful, fresh, and filling.

After our delicious lunches, our sweet tooth took the wheel. We stopped into Sugar Mama’s Bake Shoppe for a Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich. Three flavours of ice cream, shoved between a soft-baked chocolate chip cookie, half dipped in chocolate, then covered in sprinkles? Core memory of flavours unlocked! So classic and simple, yet so perfect. Paired with a Blue Raspberry Lemonade from Lemons, we were living our 90s childhood all over again.

THE ADVENTURE DOESN’T STOP THERE

Our final stop, Venture Outfitters, has all your outdoor gear essentials. Whether you want to try your hand (or legs) at Stand Up Paddleboarding or kayaking out on the Bay, Venture Outfitters has it covered with very reasonable rentals (between $20-30 for the first hour), or if you’re looking to buy your own they even sell some! Their knowledgeable and helpful staff are willing to answer any questions you may have.

Pop-ups on the Bay is the best place to spend a day and Belleville is fortunate to have such a wonderful summer hot spot. Be sure to check it out and snap photos of all the amazing murals and delicious eats. Check out popupsonthebay.ca for vendor operating days and hours and keep an eye out for rotational vendors this summer!
