Everyday Heroes and Veterans – Wellness Weekends

On Saturday October 15th join us for a presentation & meet and greet with Veterans and Everyday Heroes (V-EH!) for our second Weekend Wellness Program. V-EH! is a not-for-profit organization, acting as a conduit for the collective kindness of your community; providing acts of kindness to veterans and first responders. "Greenish Blue - And OSI Story" This OSI story follows a naïve Northern Ontario boy and his service dog. A recount of over two decades of concurrent service as PRes member and civilian police officer, and how he let the world consume him. Police Sergeant Andrew Gough CD, is an awarded Mental Health Advocate, having won “Champion of Change” awards from both CMHA and Canada Beyond the Blue. Lieutenant Gough, CFR’d nearly 4 years ago and remains an active reservist as a Platoon Commander. Mr. Gough was 1 of 17 CAF members on the ground for the 2014 Embassy evacuation in Tripoli, Libya. Andrew speaks of duty, relationships, service, family and growth post OSI diagnosis. Learn more about the incredible work Andrew and his team do by visiting them online at www.v-eh.ca. About Wellness Weekends at the NAFMC Visitors will be able to take part in workshops, activities, and information sessions to learn more about resources that are available in our community, and beyond, that support psychological healing and promote wellness. We will be joined by agencies and organizations that work with CAF members, veterans, and civilians, providing support through various methods of psychological healing. Programming is included with the cost of Museum admission.

Join us for the very first Scalliwags Presents: Wander Local ADVENTURE! Spend an afternoon exploring the different species of spiders that have made Downtown Belleville their home. Whether you’re already fond of our eight-legged neighbours, or are a little creeped out by them and want to face your fears, this walk is a great chance to learn more about these fascinating arachnid predators, guided by experienced naturalists. The walk begins at Scalliwag Toys (302 Front St, Belleville), and will go for roughly 2 hours. This walk will travel throughout the downtown, including parts of the adjacent Waterfront Trail, and is recommended for ages 12+. Dress for the weather, as the walk will mostly take place outside. Cost to join the walk is $15/person, with a discounted rate for groups of two or more of $10/person when booked in advance (same-day bookings will all be $15/person). Secret Path Week is a national movement commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack, and takes place annually from October 17-22. This is a meaningful week as October 17th and 22nd respectively mark the dates that Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack joined the spirit world. Come join us in celebrating the music of Canada’s favourite band and helping raise money and awareness for a great cause.
