Jazz Thursdays with the Howard Rees Duo

Howard Rees is well known as both a performer and teacher of jazz. Originally from Toronto, he spent a decade in New York apprenticing with jazz master Barry Harris. Upon returning to Toronto he founded Howard Rees’ Jazz Workshop, a school that has been home to more than 3,000 students over its 38 years.
Howard has played with some of the greats in jazz including; Jaki Byard, Ray Drummond, Slim Galliard, Barry Harris, Earl May, Charles McPherson, Akira Tana and Leroy Williams. He has been invited to teach in many schools around the world including Shobi University, Japan; University of Leeds, UK; and Stanford University, USA. Howard documented and produced the critically-acclaimed Barry Harris Workshop Video series, the go to resource for studying the late maestro’s world-renown methodology. These materials are used by university level jazz courses throughout the world. He was a featured writer for Keyboard Magazine for several years; founded We Are One Jazz Project, a charitable foundation that has brought vocal Jazz to more than 4,000 young students around Ontario; and has most
recently founded the Belleville Jazz Festival set to debut in September 2022. Howard currently resides just south of Belleville.
Paco Luviano hails from a family of musicians from Acapulco, México. Paco has played with dozens of international artists such as Liona Boyd, Jane Bunnett, Hendrik Meurkens, Filó Machado, Hilario Durán, Ignacio Berroa, Mark McLean, Frankie Valli, and Paquito D’Rivera, and in diverse musical latin jazz, jazz, Brazilian jazz, and global projects.
