Come celebrate female strength, break stereotypes (girls belong in the weight room too!), make new friends, and learn how to squat, bench-press, and deadlift.
This free event led by Team Canada powerlifter Nicola Paviglianiti welcomes girls aged 12 – 18 in the Quinte West area to The Gym to introduce them to the sport of powerlifting. Female powerhouse Shannon Fernandes from Toronto will also be in attendance as the keynote speaker, sharing her inspiring story of her involvement in Right to Play and experiences as a female strength athlete.
The event will be focused on introducing the sport of powerlifting and lifting weights as an avenue to promote physical and emotional wellbeing to youth in the community. Girls will learn how to properly squat, bench-press, and deadlift, (the lifts of powerlifting) and have the opportunity to showcase their strength.
The lifting activities will be followed by sharing a light lunch together, and the opportunity to hear from motivational female youth leaders. We hope to inspire girls with the speakers and role models at the event to make a difference and impact in their communities and celebrate female strength in all its forms.
The event will be a fun, safe, inclusive space, with NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED to participate. Youth will come away from this event with a better sense of who they are, and of how to use their innate strengths in all areas of life.
This event was made possible thanks to a Rising Youth Grant.
