Black History with the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society
February 16 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST
Free
Belleville Public Library is excited to connect with the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum for a special webinar in recognition of Black History Month.
On Wednesday, February 16 at 6 pm, join us on Zoom and learn about Chatham’s historical Black community and Black heritage.
Formerly known as “The Forks”, Chatham was a safe haven for fugitive slaves coming across on the Underground Railroad. Though freedom was gained once in Canada, the Black community still faced a difficult time. Segregation and racism were still faced after their freedom, but the Black community overcame and became prosperous in Chatham. Learn about a just few of the hard-working, skilled and educated Black men and women who came to Chatham and helped build the town.
