Are you passionate about creating a unique visitor experience, but not sure how to make it a reality? Do you want to learn how to add a sustainable, revenue-generating experience to your business?
We, along with our partner communities—Brighton, Quinte West, Belleville, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and Greater Napanee—are looking for business owners, local tourism champions or individuals who have an interesting passion, skill or profession to join us as we work together to craft new visitor experiences unique to our region.
These experiences will immerse visitors in the stories of our communities, through local storytellers and passionate creatives, as we work towards building a sustainable future for tourism in the Bay of Quinte.
We have partnered with Celes Davar, one of Canada’s leading experiential tourism operators and coaches, to help us craft FIVE brand new tourism experiences with one business or individual from each community over the next year. We anticipate learning lots and inspiring each other.
WHAT IS EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM?
Experiential tourism allows the visitor to connect to the “essence” of a place and the people who live there. An experience engages the visitor’s five senses; has interactive components; makes connections on an emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual level; and has a tangible takeaway. The most important aspect of an experience is that it tells a story of the person(s) providing the experience AND about the stage (the place) on which it is set.
Here are some examples of what an in-market visitor experience looks like:

EXPERIENTIAL TOURISM, COMMUNITY INCLUSIVITY, AND SUSTAINABILITY
Over the past year and now looking toward COVID-19 recovery, we acknowledge that businesses in our tourism sector have had to shoulder an enormous amount of burden and have shown incredible resilience. The resourcefulness and survival instincts shown by local businesses to overcome these challenges by reinventing themselves time and time again have been extraordinary.
With a light at the end of the tunnel now in sight, we can seize the opportunity to rebuild our tourism landscape with all of you as partners, so that we will be more sustainable, inclusive and stronger than ever. These new realities require us to rethink what tourism means to our region and potentially unlearn habits and expectations of the past, to engage with new practices to help us thrive in the future, together.
As we consider the impacts of tourism on our local residents, we recognize the importance of protecting our natural assets and cultural traditions. We can develop tourism that demonstrates best practices in zero-waste, local food procurement, renewable energy and community diversity, to create a safe and inclusive environment for all visitors.
We can do it best by doing it together. We want you, your business ideas for an experience and your entrepreneurial innovation as part of this new collaborative initiative. We assure you that we will be there right beside you to support you in any way we can from the beginning right through to the market launch in 2022 (and have fun while doing it!).
