Best of the Bay: Quinte’s Top Coffee Shops

Bay of Quinte's Top Coffee Shops in Belleville, Trenton and Tyendinaga

Spring in Canada: essentially the same snowy conditions and frigid temperatures as winter, with moderately more sunshine. While we’re definitely rooting for warm summer days and casual strolls by the water, the current reality is much colder and windier. If you need something to warm your spirits and your hands, look no further check out our list below of Quinte’s top coffee shops to get you through the last of the chilly weather. Don’t worry tea lovers, we’ve got you covered too.

Quinte’s Top Coffee Shops

The Grind

This café is just steps away from the Quinte West Farmers’ Market. They offer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with organic, fair trade coffee beverages, breakfast and lunch in case you’re getting hangry. We recommend indulging in a slice of cake at a window seat for people watching at the market.

The Riverbrake Cafe

This modern coffee shop in downtown Trenton boasts sleek features and a bold, detailed black ceiling that will have you staring up instead of at your date. Make it up to them by sharing a treat from their dessert case like a nanaimo bar, peanut butter cookie or butter tart!

The Brake Room

Opened in 2016, this café-bike shop combo is one of the more recent additions to the coffee scene in Belleville. This innovative enterprise is a hub for community, coffee and cycle culture where you’ll find everyone from experienced cyclists to amateurs to coffee enthusiasts. Healthy homemade snacks, including a variety of oat bars and huge cookies, are also available to fuel you through your next bike ride!

Whether you’re stopping in to browse the shelves at the library or strolling by the Front Street location, they’ve got you covered with delicious coffee and a variety of gourmet salads, sandwiches and wraps for your next literary adventure.

Gourmet Diem

This locally owned café sells coffee and other specialty beverages, light lunches, cheese and other deli selections. Pop in for a coffee and leave armed with some great options to make an incredible charcuterie platter at home.

Café E

In the heart of downtown Belleville tucked just off of Front Street you’ll find a warm and welcoming coffee shop with tasty vegetarian and vegan options to please everyone in your group. You can sip your coffee and stare longingly at the pergola-covered patio, daydreaming of the day when it’s warm enough to sit outside again.

The Montrose Inn & Tea Room

Fancy a cuppa? Step onto the beautifully manicured grounds of the Montrose Inn, located halfway between Belleville and Trenton on Old Highway 2. Enjoy the fine tradition of high tea complete with tiered plates of finger sandwiches, tea-sized sweets and scones with devonshire-style cream and preserves. With lace tablecloths, fine china and delicately detailed tea pots, you’ll be instantly transported to high tea in London. And remember: pinkies out!

Keep It Simple Coffee

What has four wheels and runs on caffeine? This quaint coffee truck is always around on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for the farmers’ market in downtown Belleville. As you browse through the stalls bursting with the first local produce of the season, why not grab a cup of hot organic coffee?

Bourbon and Bean

We love satisfying our caffeine cravings at this new spot on Front Street in downtown Belleville. Depending on the time of day, you can choose whether your coffee needs an extra shot of warmth (did we mention it’s also a whiskey bar?).

Bri’s Beans

Would you rather ride out the cold weather from the comfort of your couch? Grab some freshly roasted beans from this micro-roaster and brew the perfect cup at home.
