Bay of Quinte Holiday Gift Guide: 2021

The holidays are just around the corner and with that, the time of year where the world seems to be made up of two types of people: those who have bought perfect gifts by the end of November, and those who have no clue where to begin… everybody could use more socks, right?

Whether you’re celebrating a specific holiday or simply want to show appreciation for someone you love, we’ve compiled a list of shops, artisans and services in the Bay of Quinte that will help you check off every person on your list.

FOOD AND DRINK

Mrs. B’s Country Candy, Brighton

For the chocolate lover

Mrs. B’s specializes in old-fashioned, small-batch, gourmet chocolate, brittle and Belgian truffles. Seriously decadent and made with only the finest ingredients, this country candy shop is sure to turn even a non-chocolate lover into an aficionado. Shop the store in Brighton (though not on an empty stomach, we warn!) or visit their online store.

Trenton Deli, Quinte West

For the ultimate charcuterie board builder

Carrying imported goods from Europe—think 2-year aged gouda from Holland, German salami, and the best selection of Haribo candy—Trenton Deli has all you need to make snack dreams come true. We all know someone who creates grazing boards and charcuterie plates that are almost too beautiful to eat, so set them up for their next creation with a gift card or a basket full of their favourites.

The Grind and Vine, Quinte West

For the caffeine lover

Help your loved one start their mornings on the right foot (you know what they’re like before they’ve had their coffee) with a gift card to The Grind and Vine. Best known for their exciting beverage menu of classics and fun seasonal creations, there’s always something new to try; the drip coffee is excellent too, for those who can’t stray from old faithful.

Broken Tower Knives, Quinte West

For the next Top Chef

Every chef knows that the secret behind a seamlessly-prepared culinary masterpiece is a superior set of knives. Knife-maker Dorian Widling understands the importance of a well-designed knife and so Broken Tower Knives came to be! Send the budding chef in your life well on their way to Michelin-star dishes by gifting them a knife they’ll fall in love with!

33 Vines, Greater Napanee

For the oenophile

The classic gift—a bottle of wine! 33 Vines was revitalized in 2019 when it was purchased by the Dunn family. Since then they’ve been busy producing over 10 different wines and renovating their tasting room and events space.

If you want to go the extra mile, book your loved one a tasting experience at the winery.

Matt’s Hot Maple, Belleville

For the hot sauce fan

Yep, it’s exactly what it sounds like! Belleville chef Matt DeMille has bottled up local maple syrup with a bit of a kick from jalapeño, herbs and garlic. The perfect stocking stuffer for the foodie in your life? We think so. You can find Matt’s Hot Maple stocked locally at The Brake Room, Small Scale Bakery, Fawn Over Market and other local spots—follow Matt on Instagram for more.

Beadwork by Lib, Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte

For the person who’s one-of-a-kind

Beadwork by Lib is run by Elizabeth Reynolds, an Indigenous artisan specializing in beaded earrings, necklaces and moccasins. Her craft speaks for itself, and everything she creates is one-of-a-kind—she never duplicates a design. A special person in your life needs a gift that is equally as unique as they are.

RETAIL

Lighthouse Books, Brighton

For the bookworm who’s read everything

For an avid reader, there’s no better gift than a new book. Lighthouse Books is an independent bookstore carrying 3,000+ books across genres. Their website is full of reading suggestions, including new releases and must-reads, but we recommend visiting them in person to breathe in that new-book-smell and hold the physical copies in your hands.

Funk & Grüven A-Z, Belleville

For the eclectic antique-r

Funk & Grüven specializes in antique and vintage furniture that’s sure to become the centerpiece of any room. You never know what you’re going to find, and if your loved one is into exclusivity, they’ll really appreciate a gift that’s one-of-a kind. Not entirely sure of their décor style? Treat them to a shopping trip instead!

Lafferty’s Crossings, Belleville Downtown District

For the sharp-dressed man

Lafferty’s Crossings specializes in menswear, carrying everything from tailored suits to classy casual wear. The knowledgeable staff will cater to all of your fashion needs, and the outdoor patio attached to the store is the best spot for a post-shopping spree drink in the warmer months. Finding the perfect fit is no easy feat, but Lafferty’s makes it feel as relaxing as possible.

Starlet, Downtown Greater Napanee

These treatments will leave them relaxed and rejuvenated amid the holiday hustle.
