HOOKED ON THE HOLIDAYS
Frosty nights, homes decked out with lights and Mariah Carey on the radio singing carols with all her might can only mean one thing: it’s getting festive in the Bay of Quinte region! Use this Bay of Quinte Holiday Bucket List to make the most of the holiday season:
LOOK AT THE LIGHTS
Our communities are feeling festive with colourful light displays. Did you know: Greater Napanee’s Big Bright Lights display uses around 750,000 LED lights?! Go for a drive or a walk to check out the winter wonderland displays in these communities:
HOLIDAY HOME TOUR
Since you’re already out and about checking out the light displays, why not see what local homes have in store? Drive along these self-guided tours to see who decks the halls and lights up the neighbourhood as much as the Griswolds. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite!
SONGS FOR THE SOLSTICE
Celebrate the Solstice under the stars in Brighton with free live music, hot chocolate, a community sing-a-long and holiday shopping!
This family-friendly event at the Quinte Mall allows children with different needs to experience the annual magic of the holidays in safe, controlled environment. This event features alternative seating options for children taking photos with Santa, as well as muted lights, quiet music and reduced centre traffic to help lessen sensory stimuli.
Cafes across the Bay of Quinte are ready to keep you warm and toasty with a hot drink. Check out our blog featuring cafes in Quinte to get you started! A peppermint hot chocolate and a holiday treat (or two) is just what we need to get us through some holiday shopping. Speaking of which…
GIVE GREAT GIFTS
Everyone on your list will thank us with the BoQ 2021 Holiday Gift Guide, all made by businesses here in the region! There’s no way we could possibly fit ALL of the amazing businesses here, but we’ve included some ideas to check off everyone on your list. (It’s still a good idea to check it twice, though. 😉)
STOP FOR A SANTA SELFIE
Bet you didn’t know old Saint Nick was the strong and silent type… We love this socially-distanced genius move by the Downtown District so you can carry on this holiday tradition.
POP BY THE PARADE
Put on your Santa hat and get ready to wave hello (from a distance) to Saint Nick himself! Remember to keep your distance from the other parade-goers as you watch the fun floats roll by. Click on each community below for the scoop on bringing letters for Santa, collection of non-perishable food items and info on parade routes.
MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE MARKETS
One of our favourite parts of the holiday hustle? All of the markets! Homemade hot sauces, creative cards, sensational skincare products, superb ceramics, we love it all. Here are a few local markets to put on your list:
SPREAD THE JOY
The Belleville Professional Firefighters’ Toy Drive began in the 1950s and since then has provided over 200,000 local children with new toys on Christmas morning. If it fits in your budget, you can help make the holidays special for a local family! Check their Facebook page for advice on where to drop off donations.
CHOP DOWN A TREE
The holiday season is full of traditions, and cutting a Christmas tree is one of our favourites. A short drive north of the 401 brings you to Denmar Farms, where the Martin family has created an awesome Christmas experience with trees, wreaths, local baked goods and plenty of holly jolly tunes.
If you’re in the Napanee area, no doubt you know all about Carole’s Christmas Tree Farm! Due to COVID-19, for the 2021 season the farm is offering a delivery service for trees and wreaths. Orders can be placed on their website here.
