Are you looking to indulge in a bit of mystery? Would you like to immerse yourself in a world of blood-thirsty characters and shadowy surprises?
You’ve come to the right place, friends, but beware: there are dark forces at play here (or so I’m told).
“Eternal love is so cliché, but eternal death, now that’s something to sink your teeth into,” says Lady Cordelia, the fictional host of the upcoming murder mystery dinner theatre, INVITED: A Dinner to Die For. The performance and dinner are the brain child of Kali Willows and Kacey Hammell, a screenplay adapted from their book of the same name.
Pssssst: you can pre-order the book here.
The murder mystery dinner is one element of a bigger picture, that being the KaliCon Writers’ Festival. The festival, now in its second consecutive year, came about as Willows wanted to produce an event that showcased local and international authors across a variety of genres.
As you might have guessed, putting together a writers’ festival is no small feat.
The festival came to fruition thanks to the enormous support of Hammell, Willows’ partner Pépé G. Woodman and their kids, Chloe and Caleb. This team started the entire festival from scratch, and out of pocket, and they are excited with the momentum that it’s building.

Chloe, an aspiring actress and artist (and possible fan of alliteration?), not only assumed the role of casting rep but was also responsible for adapting the book to screenplay. But what exactly IS the story? Here is a teaser provided by Kali:
Lady Cordelia Wyndham is hosting the event of the year, a masquerade dinner with a twist. Although she loves to throw a good party, she has a clandestine agenda for her hand-picked guests. As she raises a glass to toast the most coveted influencers of the Quinte Region (that’s you!), dark forces descend on Wyndham Manor. Death always rears its ugly face in the presence of vampires, but what happens when one of the guests is murdered in cold blood?
What can you expect from attending this intriguing dinner party?
You won’t be in any mortal danger, but you will find yourself looking for clues as the evening progresses. Actors will be mingling among the guests, no doubt trying to convince you of their innocence. Costumes are welcomed but not required; the dinner takes place just before Halloween, so why not don something that implies a bit of murder mystery flair?
The festival fun lasts for three days including a double-feature movie night, a Halloween dance party, writing workshops and speaking panels!
