Makin’ It Work: Dough Mama

Corrie Wessels – Dough Mama

Dough Mama pizza dough dry mixes are the perfect solution for delicious and easy pizza you can enjoy at home. With three different kinds to choose from, you can create anything from a classic cheese and pepperoni or a gluten-friendly veggie lovers pizza to deliciously sweet cinnamon buns. All of our doughs are egg and dairy free, and have a shelf life of one year.

What does working from home look like for you?

My business has always been based at home. I have a workshop in my home where I manufacture my products, so that has remained the same. The biggest change has been having our son home from school, and balancing work and family time.

How have you adapted your operations during the pandemic?

Initially when social distancing came into play, I halted production to ensure we were being safe and working within the government guidelines. Once we navigated the logistics and saw there was still a demand for our products, we developed a strategy to meet that demand. We implemented free local delivery with a minimum purchase, and promoted shipping for those out of our local catchment area.

Our community has always shown a great deal of support for small businesses, Dough Mama included. That support has been stronger than ever in these past few weeks. From purchasing our products, to promoting and sharing on social media platforms, it’s truly been a blessing to be a part of such a supportive community.

What is something good that has come from this difficult situation?

As tough as it has been for so many people to be home bound, it’s been so rewarding to see families working together, to create delicious meals using our products. Our goal has always been to get families in the kitchen together. This time of social distancing and staying home has created a unique window of opportunity for families to do just that.

What advice do you have for other business owners/organizers/artists/etc at this time?

We live in a great area with lots of community support. Whether you are still operational right now or waiting until you can re-open, your community will be here for you.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

We would like to thank everyone who has shown their support for small, local businesses during this time. With so much uncertainty, it’s so great to know that we can count on our community to keep us encouraged, supported and motivated. We are truly humbled and forever grateful for it.
