After two years of pandemic restrictions, Bay of Quinte Pride is excited to be returning to in-person events. We asked Stacey Love-Jolicoeur, Chair of Bay of Quinte Pride 2022, about what we can look forward to this June and how our local Pride celebrations have grown over the years.
When did Bay of Quinte Pride start?
Bay of Quinte Pride began in Belleville about 10 years ago because local youth wanted representation. About 30 youth made posters and walked down Front Street shouting “happy Pride!”

How has the event grown over the years?
We went from those 30 youth ten years ago to about 400 people marching in our last parade in 2019.
What are some of the activities/highlights at Pride in the Park this year?
We have over 45 vendors coming with lots of pride bling, local agencies showcasing their services, music, face painting, a hand print paint wall and local dignitaries making speeches. There will also be food trucks to grab a bite to eat.
What are you most looking forward to about Pride events returning?
The theme for Pride this year is “Stayed in, Coming out.” After two years of pandemic restrictions, this year is about rebuilding the community. We’re looking forward to bringing people together again and showing our pride.
The Bay of Quinte Pride Parade is happening on Saturday, June 11, departing the Empire Theatre at 12 pm and making its way to the Lion’s Pavilion in West Zwick’s Park where the Pride in the Park festivities will take place.
