The inaugural Bay of Quinte Grand Prix featuring the Deutscher Automobil Club (DAC) Trillium Trophy Races will take place on July 18/19 at Shannonville Motorsport Park. This two-day racing festival showcases the tastes of this popular summer destination and is part of the CASC-OR Road Racing Championships.
“The event will be more fun for the competitors but will also be much more of a fan-centric event and that’s really exciting,” says Giani Biral, race organizer and DAC past President.
No less than seven different racing championships will be contested over the two days, showcasing a diverse range of cars and providing something exciting for every type of motorsport fan.
The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship – the launching pad for most of Canada’s greatest road racing stars including Indycar drivers Paul Tracy and James Hinchcliffe, will contest round 3 of their Super Series between Ontario and Quebec. The F2000 Canada Championship and Radical Canada Championship feature highly sophisticated, blindingly fast wings-and-slicks and prototype vehicles. The Miller Oils F1200 Championship is known for thrilling wheel-to-wheel battles and unpredictable finishes. The CASC GT Sprints feature ground pounding V8’s and some of today’s most popular tuner cars. The GT Challenge is a one-hour enduro-run on the Saturday and VARAC is bringing out race cars from the past with their vintage historic class – truly something for everyone.
“Shannonville has been the home of some of the greatest races in the country and all of Canada’s biggest stars have raced here,” saidsaid Move Motorsport’s Jason Sharpe. “We bring in thousands of people from all around this thriving area and it’s a great event to showcase everything the region has to offer.”
The Bay of Quinte Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday July 19, 2015 at Shannonville Motorsport Park. In addition to the racing, fans can expect to sample some of the region’s food and beverage, engage with interactive motorsport and automotive themed displays and meet the drivers and teams in the open paddock area.
Thursday, July 16th will see driver Nathan Blok and his car at Gateway Brewing Company in Quinte West. Blok will be available for photos during the event, which runs from 4-8pm at the brewery, and a free ticket will accompany every $40 spent on Gateway beers.
The Drivers Party will take place at Lone Star Texas Grill in Belleville on the evening of Saturday, July 18 and will feature driver interviews, some ticket giveaways and the two event pace cars. “The great thing about motorsport is the camaraderie we enjoy on the track and in the paddock and this allows our competitors to keep the party rolling and have some fun before the final race day Sunday,” said Jason Sharpe, race promoter. “Additionally, it will allow our race fans to join in and get to know the drivers, and more importantly the sport, after the first day of competition.” In addition to the Drivers Party, Lone Star staff will be on-site at the Bay of Quinte Grand Prix handing out some swag and sampling some of their famous chips and salsa all weekend long.
The Sunday of the event also features a show-and shine for German cars.
