Remedial Action Plans or “RAPs” are in place in many communities around the Great Lakes. For the Bay of Quinte region, the RAP process was started after its designation as an Area of Concern in 1985. Issues of excess nutrients, bacterial contamination, toxins, and loss of habitat for fish and wildlife meant that life on the bay wasn’t happening in the ways that it should have been. These days, things are different.
Now approaching Stage Three of its designation, the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan (BQRAP) has taken our waterfront to a much better place. Reaching Stage Three means that the Bay of Quinte will be delisted from the RAP system – high fives all around! To celebrate today’s healthy and vibrant ecosystems around the bay, BQRAP invites you to participate in their Photo Contest With a Twist 3. Snap a photo of the beautiful Bay of Quinte and submit your shot for the chance to have your photo interpreted by a local artist in a different media. From oil and watercolour to glass, wood or metal, the original photos and artist renditions will be on display at the Belleville Art Association Gallery during their November and December 2016 shows.
