BRIGHTON

A CHARMING HARBOUR TOWN

The charming harbour town of Brighton is located on Highway 2 along the scenic shores of Lake Ontario at the western gateway to the Bay of Quinte region, and an hour and a half east of Toronto. Brighton offers the tranquil atmosphere of a small town with a wide range of boutiques, fun family parks and fine local cuisine. With its heritage main street and front porch Victorian flavour, Brighton anchors a land of wooded hills and rolling farmland. Brighton is also the gateway to Presqu’ile Provincial Park, known for lakeside camping, swimming, windsurfing, hiking and world-class birding.

Brighton is the on the west end of the Bay of Quinte region, approximately an hour from the GTA. The community is anchored by Presqu’ile Provincial Park and extends to where the Murray Canal connects Lake Ontario to the Bay of Quinte.

Brighton Speedway is a 1/3-mile clay stock car racing oval located on the shores of Lake Ontario in Brighton, Ont. The speedway hosts five weekly stock car divisions on Saturday nights from May to September.

Codrington Farmers’ Market

Since its opening in 2015, the Codrington Farmers’ Market established itself as one of the region’s premier weekly destinations. Originally created to address the absence of a local market in the Municipality of Brighton, its popularity was immediately evident.

Applefest

The community of Brighton, in eastern Ontario, is surrounded by rich agricultural land with an abundance of apple orchards and roadside farmers’ stalls. To bear witness to the bountiful apple harvest at the height of the harvesting season, Brighton celebrates its annual Applefest festival over the last full weekend of September.

The Bay of Quinte RMB Land Acknowledgement

The Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board is committed to acknowledging, appreciating and understanding the Indigenous peoples’ historic connection to this land and to raising awareness by building relationships in collaboration with Indigenous partners and communities. 

We recognize and acknowledge that we are living and working on the traditional territory of the Wendat, Mississauga, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee which includes the Kenhtè:ke Kanyen’kehá:ka (Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte) with whom we work in direct partnership with. 

This partnership focuses on the common goal of celebrating the region with the Kenhtè:ke Kanyen’kehá:ka who are equal partners within the organization and at the Board of Directors table contributing to the mandate and operations.

This mandate includes listening to, learning from, and collaborating with the Kenhtè:ke Kanyen’kehá:ka and actively incorporating their culture and heritage into the practice of responsible destination marketing and management of the region.

We understand that this land acknowledgement is only a small step towards the larger process of reparations and reconciliation.
